Microban has announced that it is a joint finalist in this year's Plastics Industry Awards. The achievement recognises the company's outstanding partnership with Matrix Plastics Ltd in the production of antimicrobial masterbatches.
Now in its 20th year, the Plastics Industry Awards has firmly established itself as the forum for rewarding excellence in an increasingly competitive marketplace. The event is dedicated to celebrating innovation and acknowledging the best companies (and people) in the sector.
Microban and Matrix have been shortlisted in the Materials Innovation category. This award celebrates innovation and a forward-looking vision to deliver new services, processes, or products to the market - all while engaging constructively with customers and/or the community.
Aspects the judges will be considering include:
- Creativity (i.e. the development of novel products and services)
- Solution-oriented thinking when confronted with challenges (i.e. regulatory issues, COVID-19)
- The relevance, benefits, and impact of the innovation in the market

Graham Harvey, International Group Director at Microban, commented: "Matrix Plastics is one Microban’s key supplier partners and has been for many years. Throughout the COVID-19 outbreak, they worked tirelessly and without question to support the unprecedented demand for our antimicrobial masterbatch formulations. I am thrilled that these efforts are being recognised with such a prestigious award nomination."
Nigel Batt, Managing Director at Matrix Plastics, commented: “It gives me great pleasure to be a joint finalist with Microban for the PIA Materials Innovation award. We were proud to have been selected by Microban as their partner in 2014, and going forward the investment and development plan we have in place will put both partners in a strong position beyond 2021. We look forward to further strengthening our partnership and continuing to work side by side to develop and produce new products for use by some of the world's biggest brands."
The Plastics Industry Awards will take place as a hybrid event from 1-2 December 2021. It will comprise a two-day virtual conference along with a glittering awards ceremony at London’s Hilton Waldorf. For those who cannot attend in person, the event will also be live-streamed.
