The future of car interiors
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a heightened sense of awareness about surface cleanliness and hygiene, and automotive brands definitely have a greater interest in, and need for, built-in antimicrobial solutions.
A study by Multi-sponsor Surveys (2020) found that 72 % of consumers are now concerned about exposure to bacteria and germs, with 66 % citing antimicrobial-treated products as important in preventing the spread of bacteria.
The concept of multi-use vehicles in particular has been an increasingly popular topic of conversation with automotive brands. As these companies start to look away from traditional ownership models, they have realized there is a need to build in technology that facilitates a more hygienic cabin environment and greater peace of mind for consumers.
Microban International has developed a plethora of antimicrobial formulations for car interiors. Integrated at the stage of manufacture or applied as a post-treatment coating, Microban technologies work to continuously prevent microbial growth on surfaces for their expected lifetime.
Microban is collaborating with many leading automotive brands – Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers – on a number of innovative projects that demonstrate the ability of antimicrobial technologies to create hygienically cleaner car interiors that actively support regular cleaning routines.
