HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (July 28, 2016) – Microban® International Ltd., the global leader in textile odor control and prevention, today announced its partnership with Li Ning Company Limited, a China-based sportswear company providing apparel to the Chinese National Team this summer in Rio, Aug. 5-21. Athletes from two teams will wear a uniform treated Microban’s ZPTech™ odor control technology.
This is the first time Microban branded technologies will be licensed by an apparel brand that supplies uniforms for national teams in either the summer or winter games. The partnership has been in development for the past six months.
Chinese table tennis and shooting teams will wear sports shirts infused with Microban’s ZPTech, a wide-spectrum antimicrobial, that is not only effective against bacteria, but also, the growth of fungi including mold, mildew and algae. It is durable, and has been tested to remain 99.9 percent effective in more than 50 home launderings. It is used by more than 60 leading sports, athleisure, apparel and footwear brands. Earlier this year, ZPTech received bluesign® approval.
Sports shirts athletes from the Chinese National Team will be wearing at the summer games in Rio shown below.
“The Microban-treated apparel protects the athletes from unwanted microbes and odors during competition, assisting them in their quest to perform at top levels in front of a global audience,” said Lisa Owen, senior director of the global textile business at Microban. “Our Microban Global Textile Asia team is in regular contact with sportswear brands in China to develop specific applications for its textile materials. As a result, Li Ning selected our antimicrobial additive technology for this important collaboration. We are confident the athletes will be more comfortable in Rio using a proven Microban odor control technology; and we wish the athletes well next month.”
