Exploring the Next Generation of Sustainable Coatings

The UK’s future Chemical Strategy is now under development. Early discussions have explored the innovation of safe(r) and sustainable chemicals and this has included developing an understanding of how Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) criteria could be used to promote innovation and sustainable chemistry principles.

The British Coatings Federation (BCF) will be hosting a seminar to explore solutions for the next generation of sustainable coatings. Taking place on 5th September at Crowne Plaza Manchester City Centre, the seminar will cover different aspects of product development, including:

  • The hazards and risks of raw materials
  • Carbon footprint
  • Use of bio-based raw materials
  • Packaging innovations
  • Life-cycle analysis

Confirmed guest speakers include Mary Tomlinson, Head of Chemicals Strategy, and Megan Thomsett, SSbD lead at Defra, Dr. Neil Hunt, Managing Regulatory Consultant at Yordas, and Tony Heslop, Senior Sustainability Manager at BASF. James Rapley, Product Development Engineer at Microban International, will be educating the audience on new antimicrobial innovations for sustainable coating systems at 14.10 BST.

By attending this event members will gain an understanding of the direction of the ‘Safe and Sustainable by Design’ policies and gain an insight into the innovative solutions that coatings suppliers are working towards. There will also be opportunities for members to feed into the discussion, and network with other industry professionals.
